Hill Stations in Gujarat

Gujarat is located on the north-west side of the Indian peninsula and has more to offer than meets the eye. The state, popularly known for its coastal line and a rich cultural heritage, is also home to several hill stations that make for a perfect summer getaway. Here are a few hill stations in Gujarat that you can plan a summer trip to.

Saputara Hill Station

Perched at a height of 1,000 meters, on the Sahyadri mountain range, Saputara is the most famous hill station in Gujarat. It is at a distance of 400 km from Ahmedabad and 170 km from Surat. To get to Saputara, book a taxi in Ahmedabad. The picturesque hill station is on a plateau in the Dangs Forest Area and offers a pleasant climate throughout the year. It is well developed by the Gujarat Tourism Department and has parks, lakes, swimming pools, hotels, boat clubs, theatres and more to entertain the tourists.

The Saputara Lake is a beautiful lake that offers a serene environment for nature lovers. You can also visit the Gira waterfall to witness the splendid gushing waters. Adventures lovers also have a host of activities that they can engage in including trekking, paragliding, rock climbing, etc.  You can enjoy a ride on the Pushpak ropeway and trek through the dense forests while you are here. You also have the chance to explore the culture of Saputara through its tribal museum and artists’ village.

 

Wilson Hills

A dense forest area in the Valsad district of the State of Gujarat, Wilson Hills is a popular destination for travelers looking to escape the hot summers. The climate around here is more pleasant than the surrounding area. The hill station offers you a rustic beauty which is barely touched by outside elements. It has not yet been developed, but it offers certain nature points that can leave you mesmerized. It is located 120 km from Surat and 270 km from Ahmedabad.

There is a restaurant and a tent resort at the peak if you would like to spend a night amidst nature.

Don Hill Station

Relatively new to the list of hill stations in Gujarati, this is scenic hill station village that is located near the hill station of Saputara. It is largely unexplored due to its lack of popularity but does not fail to offer a surreal experience. The hill station is at a height of 1100 meters and the best time to visit the place is in the monsoon when the natural beauty is enhanced after the rains. While there is no accommodation in the region, the district is actively involved in opening the place up for tourism.

The Don Hill Station is 175 km from Surat and is 50 km from Saputara. To get to Don Hill Station, book a car rental in Surat.

There are also other hill stations around Gujarat which can also be worth visiting for a summer retreat. Some of them are Mount Abu in Rajasthan, Matheran, and Lonavla in Maharashtra.

Mount Abu is aptly called the ‘oasis in the middle of the desert’ and this hill station is a famous summer escape in the State of Rajasthan with its lakes, evergreen forests and waterfalls which are a treat to the eyes.
