In This Present Unemployment Crisis, Passing The Blame Does Not Help

Ever since the discussion of youth selling pakora for livelihood has started, many came out with a harsh criticism of the government. It’s easy to understand their anger and frustration. The people had high expectations from this government, especially from the youth who were rooting for Modi sarkar in every available platform, hoping for a bright future through better employment opportunities. And clearly, they seem to be let down.

But what’s disappointing in this whole discussion, is that no one is coming up with potential solutions to address this issue. All that we do is criticize the current government, just like we criticized the previous government and so on.

This has become ‘the Indian way of free speech’ – just a verbal rant without any consideration on how to achieve reform or revolution. If we step back and look at the bigger issue of education and unemployment in India, we can see that the problem lies within each and every level of our society, and not just with the people governing us.

The biggest issue in our nation is not being unable to produce talented individuals, but being unable to retain them.

There are so many talented Indians looking for an easy escape to other countries in search of better life. This is because of multiple reasons including the lack of opportunities for entrepreneurship. These people are able to create so many jobs in other countries with the start-ups that they have come up with.

For example, as the report “Immigrants and Billion Dollar Startups” published in the year 2016 in the USA mentions, “With 14 entrepreneurs on the list, India was the leading country of origin for the immigrant founders of billion dollar companies.”

But how many parents, education institutions, and governments in our country are working towards making this happen in India?

From the very beginning, we train children to have mediocre dreams, and to aim for a white-collar job with just enough earnings to live a mediocre life. Our schooling and professional lives also limit us from thinking big, and taking bold decisions.

Recently, some local governments have been coming up with initiatives to encourage start-ups, but still, there is so much more that can be done to improve the situation. However, unnecessary bureaucracy and political meddling is still creeping in at every stage.

The only way to create more employment opportunities in India is to change the age-old mindsets and methods. We have to encourage the youth to do something on their own by providing a level playing field to compete.

This has to happen in every home, institution, and government. Just by pointing fingers at something, criticising and commenting on the situation all the time will not help us in any productive way. But small steps and changes that are within our control, will definitely have drastic but distant effects. We have to remember that every positive result had a historic action, and every positive action will definitely have a fruitful future result.
