It’s needless to say that corruption and scams are major issues in which the people of India want to see change. The earlier UPA government had failed to stop corruption, and several scams flourished at the time. So the minds of the people changed and they sought alternatives to the Congress and its allies
The BJP-led NDA government came into power under the leadership of Narendra Modi. People want a corruption and scam free India where the development should undertake speedily. This was the core reason for the blow of the ‘Modi Wave’ in India.
But here again, the government has changed, but the culture remains the same. Earlier we spoke against the UPA government and Dr Monmohan Singh, and now the targets are the NDA government and PM Narendra Modi.
Yes, we do have the right to question our government, and we are doing so. But the thing is – this is not the enough! Corruption and scams have been occurring for years, and we show our outrage and anger to our government, but we get the minimal results.
Today, there are several cases of the corruption charges against politicians and those in the system, still pending in India’s courts. The core problem lays in our political system. We have voted for change, but none has come. And this is because we do not yet seek change in our political culture. We should stand to purify the political culture of the nation which has changed politics into an ugly game.
This article is regarding the ongoing Nirav Modi fraud. Nirav Modi is a man thrown into notoriety by fraud allegations by Punjab National Bank (PNB) as part of a $1.8 billion, or ₹11,400 crore scam.
Earlier Vijay Mallya fled the country after a ₹9000 crore fraud, and now it is Nirav Modi’s turn. In both the cases, we can highlight that it is systematic corruption and its subsequent failure. Both the defaulters’ allegedly used their contacts and status to obtain loans with the help of corrupt officials.
As far as their escape is concerned, it’s obvious that escaping is not a big deal for these fraudsters. I would also like to add that there is a strange similarity between these two events. In both events, the system was compromised, and laws were either not implemented properly or not followed and there was a lack of proper guidance. So the important thing to learn is that we should focus on the right laws and their implementation because it’s not that hard now for these rich fraudsters to escape once they have cheated.
Further, I believe that we should have an independent commission to look into the working of the banks and then the necessary recommendations given by commission must be implemented. Here, the prime duty of our government is to evaluate how much interest they have in stopping these aligned and pre-planned corruption tries. Will they apply any measures to prevent these?
As a voter who voted for the BJP in the last general elections, I must say that the PNB scam has hurt people’s expectations of Narendra Modi. This is especially true in light of what NaMo had stated during his 2014 election campaign, “Na khaunga, na khane dunga (Neither will I be a corrupt official nor will I let anyone else be one.)”
The people had expected a lot from him and his party-led government. But here, we have come to the point of being disappointed and losing hope and belief in NaMo.
PM Modi will complete four years of his office tenure in May 2018, but the big question is whether he has brought the ‘achche din’ back? In my opinion, he tried very well, but I have no expectations in next one year because the fifth year of his office tenure will be the election carnival.
Before summing up this article, I would like to add that Prime Minister Modi’s immediate challenge is to restore the confidence of the people towards his governance. Cleaner administration, sincere development efforts, wisdom in spending public money and protection of the secular character of the nation are much needed. After all, the results of your work are more important for the people, rather than the dialogues that your PR team made up.
