Shruti Haasan is definitely more than just a pretty face, probably a part of those rare few in the industry to be so. Daughter of seasoned actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur, Haasan made her foray into the film industry as a child artist in her father’s acclaimed film, Hey Ram (2000). Her role was short as she appeared as the daughter of Prime Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Aside from acting, probably it is a lesser known fact to people that Haasan is blessed with the gift of music. Her singing capabilities have made her popular, and now Shruti sings playback in films. But it wasn’t until 2009 that she made her very own acting debut in Bollywood. Have you seen these films of Shruti Haasan?

- Luck (2009) – This Hindi thriller film has been directed by Soham Shah and has a great ensemble cast comprising actors such as Mithun Chakraborty, Imran Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Sanjay Dutt, Chitrashi Rawat and Rati Agnihotri. Shruti Haasan not only acted in this film but also lent her voice for the song ‘Azma Luck’. Earlier Shruti Haasan has also worked as a playback artist for the film Chachi 420.
- Anaganaga O Dheerudu (2011) – Shruti Haasan next went onto bag critical acclaim for her part in the Walt Disney co-produced film Anaganaga O Dheerudu. In the film, Haasan plays the part of a gipsy. This film directed by Prakash Kovelamudi stars Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame. This film was Haasan’s first science fiction film as well as her first romantic one. The film was a high budget one, and it was released all over India, in not only Telugu but also Tamil and Hindi. Shruti Haasan won the Best Debut award at the Filmfare Awards South.
- Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011) – She next got her big break in a Madhur Bhandarkar film, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. This film also boasts of a big star cast with names like Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya and Tisca Chopra. The film featured Shruti Haasan briefly as the step-daughter of Tisca Chopra who is also the love interest of Emraan Hashmi. Although a brief presence in the film, Haasan made a strong impact by her ultimate rejection of Hashmi in the film. Although Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji failed to create a storm at the box office, the film was praised critically for its unique content and delightful music.
Following these few film Shruti Haasan has worked on and off, mainly concentrating on her career as a playback singer. In a poll held by the Chennai Times in 2013, Haasan has secured first place for being one of the ‘Most Desirable Women’.
