Dear Deshbhakts, Breaking Statues Can Get You Headlines But It Won’t Break An Ideology

The Lenin and Periyar statue incidents were unfortunate. Now we can say that we have reached a stage where there is no place for any different ideology other than that of the Sangh Parivar. It is really shocking that these fringe elements, instead of being repressed, are patronised by our government. A single tweet, some kadi ninda or at most some tears during a public conference is considered enough to deal with them.

It is the worst time for democracy when the only motive of the government is to win elections. Because then, it considers the citizens only as votes and its every step and policy is based on calculating how many votes it would fetch them. The government should not forget that Lenin and Periyar were leaders and heroes of the past and ideals for tomorrow.

Will the so called ‘deshbhakts’ also vandalise the statues of Bhagat Singh and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay? Because like Lenin, they too stood for the poorest. Or maybe they should vandalise the statue of Narendra Modi since his slogan ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas’ also sounds inspired from Lenin.

The fringe are forgetting that by killing anyone or by breaking any statue, you can only gain headlines but you can never break any ideology. You can kill a being but not their views. Has the nation forgotten Gandhi or Bhagat Singh or Chandrashekhar Azad? No, because they all stood for a noble cause and so did Lenin and Periyar. They never supported any particular community or sect. Instead, they stood for the well-being of all. And this is probably what is taught by every religion .

So let’s pray and act together to develop a world where all ideologies can flourish and complement each other.
