Trump’s Transgender Military Ban: What Kind Of Example Does This Set Before The World?

In an attempt to make historical changes, Trump has passed a law banning transgender persons from serving in the military. This is a threat to humanity and its principles. When a leader of one of the most powerful nations is in favour of such inhumane acts, I truly feel that mankind is in danger.

Even proposing such a notion is outrageous . I agree that a country’s military power should not dwindle in any case and effective measures and possible restriction is necessary but Trump’s outright repealing of the Obama-era law – which had allowed transgender persons to serve in the military – does not seem right.

This new policy is seeped in gender discrimination. Any individual capable of serving the nation should not be banned or be made to feel ashamed of their individuality.

He is against transgender individuals serving in the military because he feels they are incapable and unfit to serve in the military. So what about those proud transgender soldiers who had served their country till now?

Tomorrow, he might feel that cis people are incapable and unfit to serve in the military too. Trump’s initial blanket ban has been blocked by federal judges but the new ban still discriminates on the basis of whether trans people in the military have a history gender dysphoria.

Every leader thinks that they should make some major changes while serving the country. Sometimes it is for the welfare of the country but most of the time, it makes you wonder whether the decision was in the interest of common citizens or the self interest of the leader.

America is one of the most powerful countries in the world and they ask other countries to follow their vision. Is this really an example to set for the rest of the world?

It’s a sad day in the history of justice because as Martin Luther King Jr said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
