I am Rambabu Sharma, an employee of a German MNC, working with cutting-edge technologies of power generation. I have travelled to Germany and other European countries and keep travelling abroad and within India to commission new power plants. Despite my busy schedule at work and the constant travelling, I have not forgotten my roots, and I am committed to serving underprivileged children to help them pursue their education. This was the genesis of “Youth Empowerment Foundation”, an NGO I started to empower young people to impact their communities with positive changes. I have been spending most of my salary to run this initiative since June 2017. I not only fund but also spend quality time with the team and community leaders to guide them in achieving their objectives.
At the foundation’s two centres in Vasant Kunj and Dwarka in Delhi, 200 children from deprived communities receive education, skill training, healthcare support, social awareness etc. Most importantly, we organise workshops to help our students attain a high quality of moral values to become a noble human being.
They are now getting opportunities to show their talent at different public platforms and enlighting all those who attend. They were called underprivileged, but now they are turning things around for themselves. We want to make our kids self-reliant individuals, and for this, we are not just giving training, we also give them employment opportunities at our centres itself. They are making LED Bulbs, LED Tubelights, panel lights, candles, earrings, paper bags etc.
I consider this whole world as my family, and I work hard to cater to them, to make everyone’s life easier, and help establish human values in this society. I hail from a severely disadvantaged background and have struggled through my childhood and youth to complete my formal education until June 2016. The relevance of my vision can be derived from my journey since I came to Delhi from a remote village in Bihar. Life was not easy and kind to me, so I had to work as child labour in the factories of Kirti Nagar to support my family. I worked as a carpenter, office boy, computer operator etc. at various places to earn better wages and to be able to earn a living and take care of my family. Nevertheless, amidst of all these adverse situations, I managed to continue my studies somehow, my strong zeal for education paved my way to achieving an engineering degree from one of the esteemed university of our country, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Delhi. I secured 9th rank in the University entrance exam, and I received a scholarship to pursue my education throughout all semesters.
This is why I feel we should work collectively to empower all those in need so that every child in our country can receive a quality education.
