A glimpse into sustainable development goals for women

Sustainable development

Women have played a crucial role in development. This may be through the significant contribution in their respective field. However, the disheartening fact states that the female empowerment is yet to be attained. There are certain instances which act as the prime testimony to gender inequality. Fulfilling this need is among the pressing challenges of sustainable development. Women are affected by these issues and need to resolve them. In the current scenario, many NGOs are playing an active role in spreading awareness. They undertake several programs for the welfare of women.

These NGOs even organize various activities to empower girls and women.  Various awareness programs target sustainable development goals with respect to women. Indicators and targets of these goals are considered to define a concrete action(s). These actions ensure that all the plans favor the targeted needs of women. It’s time to take a look at sustainable development goals of women which ought to be attained in the present scenario:

Poverty and gender inequality should be removed

Unless the barriers of gender inequality are broken, poverty cannot be eliminated from the society. Women are competent enough to bring sufficient income to home through their daily wages. If the women are suppressed, their contribution to household income will not get reflected. This is precisely where the gender equality is the sustainable development goal which needs to be taken into consideration to remove poverty from the society.

Discrimination against women still prevails in the society, wherein, male inheritors are preferred for landowning. According to a report, only 20% of land inheritors are women. If this is the prime factor which does not allow women to rise, then, this has to be eliminated. Most of the NGOs are currently making intuitive plans to make this gender equality sustainable development goal achievable. The activities are consistently carried out taking into mind the needs of women. This attempt is totally aimed at fetching women their rights.

Ensure healthy life for quality life

Irrespective of different ages, all the women need to stay healthy. This will not only focus on their healthy life but, quality life, in the long run. Among all the sustainable development goals, this goal keeps a check on all the health issues hampering the life of a woman. It is seen that women are more susceptible to health disorders, so, their well-being has to be addressed. Women at a reproductive stage are likely to get affected by AIDS which leads to death as well. In most of these cases, women also die due to this health peril. The NGOs are spreading awareness and empowering the women of all ages about the importance of staying healthy.

The maternal mortality rate is 14 times higher in developing regions as compared to developed ones. Proper immunization and health information need to be passed to women at a reproductive stage to avoid coming into contact with HIV/AIDS infection. This sustainable development goal is not only centered around wellness of women but also, to impart awareness about health. Promoting health at all ages is the chief goal of the NGOs across the world, at present.

Sanitation facility for all women

Women have to undergo turmoil at certain places when they have to manage sanitation. They cannot carry out ablutions and other works related to sanitation in the open. It was noticed in a data that 2.4 billion women still face sanitation issue. However, the females who lead a village life are now becoming aware of the need for sanitation presently. This has become possible with the help of NGOs as they strive to attain sustainable development for women. With the help of various activities, women can get acquainted with their right to sanitation.

So, let her rise and shine with the sustainable development and attain her goals. All the women have to become conscious about their rights. They need to participate in the women welfare activities of NGO, so that, they can become successful and equal in the society.
