Bribery Culture In The Indian Railways’ Staff

Over the past few years, the Indian Railways system has changed tremendously. We have much better and cleaner trains when compared to that in past, the food quality has improved, toilets are cleaned in every junction, cleaned bedspread provided in AC compartments but there is still a reason where Indian Railway is giving chance to point finger at them. The bribe culture with the TTE.

Recently my family was traveling from Nagpur to Indore. They were 3 of them and the ticket was in RAC. They boarded the train and on the same couch, they checked where 2 berths were vacated. They had a sigh of relief as they thought they will get the berth easily. When the ticket examiner checked their ticket and my dad requested him to allot the vacant berth. The TTE refused to listen to them and continue to check tickets of other co-passengers. He (Dad) requested him again and he (TTE) refused to listen. With no option, my dad had to go out and tell him to charge some money and allocate the vacant berth to them. He paid him 500 INR, after which the TTE happily confirmed the tickets and they could reach Indore by relaxing in a full berth.

Bribe is something we as an individual should avoid and fight against. But what options one can think of when he has an overnight journey before which he had a tiring day? Who is corrupted here? The system or an individual who leaves no option to another.
