Mumbai never witnessed such a Green Movement, like Earth – Day celebrations at Dadar beach in a long time, organized by CREDAI – MCHI and MISSION GREEN MUMBAI. Mumbaikars love for Greenery is known far and wide and as an ode to their love, CREDAI – MCHI took the CELEBRATIONS a notch above where our Managing Committee Members led by MrDomnicRomell, Secretary, CREDAI – MCHIplanted coconut trees on the beach and encouraged all Mumbaikars to adopt ONE!

We have embarked on the target of planting ONE LAKH trees which is fired by the MAN ON A MISSION, MR SUBHAJIT MUKHERJI, Founder, MISSION GREEN MUMBAI who has planted over 34,000 trees in Mumbai.

Shri Aaditya Thackeray, President – YuvaSena, known for his involvement in social work and betterment of Mumbai, was the Chief Guest on the occasion, whose commitment towards Green & Clean Mumbai was palpable. He encouraged the huge gathering of citizens on Dadar beach amidst celebrities from all walks of life to support plastic ban and plant trees in their surroundings or wherever they can. Joined by a strong force of important people working on the cause of environments like Shri Gopal Zaveri from River March, Shri AvinashKubal from Mahim Nature Park and Subhash Rane, Nodal Officer, Swacch Bharat Abhiyan. INS Hamla provided logistic support to the program. He himself took lead and involved himself in beach cleaning and planting coconut trees on the beach. He is a role model for youngsters of Mumbai.

Mumbaikars present there took oath to remove usage of plastic from their lives led by MrAaditya Thackeray and MsDia Mirza.

In the presence of 500+ select audience representing Corporates, NGOs, CSR Heads, Employee Engagement Heads, BMC, Forest Department, Garden Department and other distinguished Mumbaikars, MrAaditya Thackeray said, “I am not trying to protect the environment. I am trying to create a world where the environment does not need protecting. The way Mahatma Gandhi Ji brought all brothers together for freedom from slavery. Inspired, I am trying to bring all society together to address environment protection and with support from all of you, I would be like to contribute towards Green & Clean Mumbai. Your presence on Dadar Beach early morning towards the cause is ample proof of your dedication towards environment protection.”

Speaking on the Plastic ban he said, “It is our duty to realise that how harmful plastic is for our health and environment’s too. We want to take those in the fold also who are opposing the plastic ban and share with them how Mumbai will benefit with this step.”

Sharing her experiences, MsDia Mirza, Miss Asia Pacific, Bollywood actor and U N Goodwill ambassador for the environment for India said, “We should celebrate “Earth Day” as our own birthday by making it truly special. Our responsibility towards protecting the environment should be much greater so that our future is greener and healthier.”

A great proponent of #SayNoToPlastic and deeply committed towards the cause, “She said I completely eliminated the use of plastic from my personal usage and I encourage you all to do the same. Plastic is immensely harmful to body and environment; your small step would yield big results for the environment.”

She devoted a lot of time in cleaning the beach which inspired present one and all to take up the cause and we could see a huge mass of citizens, student, corporates, NCC Cadets involved in beach cleaning.

Speaking on the occasion, MrDomnicRomell, Secretary said, “We at CREDAI-MCHI – an integral part of construction industry firmly believe that it is time to return the favour of Mother Earth by planting more trees, by controlling pollution and by making it a greener planet. The small occasion of Earth Day Celebrations on Dadar Beach today has taken the form of a movement with celebrities from all walks of life joining to plant trees and show their commitment towards the cause. I am happy to mention that as construction industry we are fully committed to green and clean Mumbai.”

As expressed by Mr Subhajit Mukherjee, Founder, Mission Green Mumbai: Corporate Social Responsibility is redefined as Corporate Social Response where MCHI has become a response team to address the human needs of Shelter and better health. Working for the environment is not a social work. It is a serious business where we profit by good and healthy living.”

This is an honest effort to bring all the Green Humans in Mumbai together to work as a Green Team led by none other than Mr Chinu Kawatra whose involvement to clean the beaches is praiseworthy and he has done massive clean-up in just 35 weeks.
