India, Isn’t It Time You Protect Your News Sources?

In most countries codes names like ‘Deep Throat’ are given. Governments provide witness protection and even give asylum to whistleblowers like they did with Edward Snowden.

But in India, we make it compulsory for people with incriminating evidence and sensitive information to identify themselves, making them open targets. Journalists, activists and scholars like Lalit Mehta, Bhupendra Vira and M.M. Kalburgi were killed because they were in possession of such information.

India has a Whistleblowers Protection Act and a Journalists Protection Act, so why aren’t whistleblowers and journalists protected?
