The Keyboard And I – An Unending Saga

Before stumbling upon the hashtag, I had never actually thought about why I write. And that question startled me and led me to this piece. Why do I write? What was the first instance that made a little girl pick up a pen and jot down a story about another little girl who was lost in another world?

Why did I write before social media hit this planet and everybody found a platform? Why did I write even before I knew that there would be people interested in what I scribble inside my secret diary? Why did I write way before someone told me that I write well? It is not just me  –  why do millions of others like me pick up a pen (or ravage the keyboard) to voice their thoughts inaudibly? The question was unexpected and baffling, yet it took just a minute for me to figure out why.

We write to invoke that suppressed feeling which lies deep down in every heart. We write to echo the thought of hundreds of lone warriors like us feeling hundreds of emotions, yet unable to voice even a few of those. We write to give a voice to those whose words have been choked by the noise of unnecessary chaos of this world. We write to raise those issues that have been lost in translation. We write to put forward our views in this unfair spectrum where unspoken becomes invisible. We write to realize our strength which is otherwise reluctant. We write because if our jokes make some people laugh, we believe that we have committed a good deed. We write to share our pain and multiply our happiness because God knows, this world needs some support and few smiles.

We write because we read an unbelievable saying somewhere and believed it with full conviction – the pen is mightier than the sword. Let’s just say the keyboard is mightier than the trolls.
