Mr Modi, It Is High Time You Start Behaving Like The Prime Minister Of This Nation

Dear Mr Modi,

I clearly remember your campaigns for the 2014 general elections. I vividly remember you addressing the public in various rallies, and roaring your ideas and ideologies to the awestruck spectators mesmerised by your speeches and words-draped in revolution and dipped in the pride of achievements of a common man. A man who was once a tea-seller was now running for the prime minister of the largest democracy in the world.

You were a beacon of hope for every middle-class man who was tired of just existing, the sarcasm in your words cutting through the humiliating and demeaning statements by the then ruling party members proved that you were a man not to be heckled. Rising from your position as an RSS member to an eminent personality in mainstream politics without any godfather, you made us dream of a progressive nation, a nation which was fed up with corrupted politicians holding important positions in the cabinet and most importantly we were stuck with a silent leader. I clearly remember having an intuition that if this time you won, and it proved to be futile like your predecessors’, people would stop believing in the nation and its government, and all the hopes of a better nation would come crashing down. And that’s what has happened.

You might have brought glory to our country with the powerful speeches you delivered abroad but you have been unsuccessful in bringing the change we had voted you for. Your power packed speeches have failed to stop the inflation and rising price, they have failed to uplift the degraded Indian education system, they have failed to create and secure jobs, they have failed to bring communal harmony and, religious and social tolerance in the minds of extremists, they have failed to make our colleges safe from goons and destructive politics and they have failed to protect the common man’s money from frauds and scams.

They have failed to protect the women of this nation from sexual and physical torture, and killings, they have failed to make countymen accept the non-binary genders as the rightful inhabitants of this nation, they have failed to prevent corruption from corroding the foundation of an already staggering nation, they have failed to provide safety to the unprivileged citizens of our society from dominant forces, they have failed to protect this country from Hindutva nationalists, they have failed to maintain necessary law and order, rather igniting the sparks of communal differences into communal hatred resulting into riots and genocides.

Mr Modi, it is high time you stopped condemning the felonious acts by members of your party and rather take strict actions against them. It is high time you brushed off the ignorant statements by the cabinet ministers demeaning women, rape victims, members of the LGBTQ community and issue a public apology with an assurance of taking measures to stop re-occurrences of such shameful incidents. It is high time you took responsibility for mismanagement during demonetisation and current cash crunch in our nation. It is high time you broke your silence on the issues that matter to the nation and us as its citizens and take a strong stand for uniting this nation. It is high time you focused on the internal affairs of our nation, building a strong and empowering nation from its third world position rather than setting records for being the most travelled prime minister.

It is high time you metamorphosed your promises to the people in the speeches during election campaigns into solid actions. It is high time you behaved as a leader, speaking strongly against the inefficiency of your ministers and taking immediate much-required actions. It is high time you started trusting the sovereignty and fraternity of this nation and took severe measures in demolishing elements of the society trying to disrupt the peace of this land; it is high time you took concrete steps to bring back the black money – a promise you made to us in your famous speeches. It is high time your actions spoke louder than your words. It is high time you realised that being the Prime Minister of this nation, you are not holding a position of privilege but a position equipped with tools for the betterment of the Indian citizens and a position armed with responsibilities.
