India Was Great At The CWG 2018, Except At Its National Sport

India has had a fantastic run at the Common Wealth Games in Austraila. However, I noticed a peculiar thing. It seems that India has done well in most sports, other than hockey – it’s national sport. While hockey was a sport in which the country always seemed to perform well – it did not look to be the case this time.

India’s entry into the semi-final had heightened the hope of us earning a medal, but the defeat at the hands of New Zealand’s team shattered our expectations. Due to our loss, we lost the third place and any hopes of a medal in hockey at the CWG 2018.

The country had a marvellous presentation at various events at the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast in Australia. But what diminished not getting a medal in the national sport was disappointing to say the least.

The men’s team is supposed to have knelt before the playing style of opponent teams out and out. Although the players’ eyes were set on reaching the target winning every match, they seemed to lack the adequate mental energy to ensure that they do reach the goal.

Both teams, especially the women, played their worst games of the tournament when a medal was at stake.
