Moral Restrictions Continue On Saudi Women Amid Changes

One video clip showing a woman’s uncovered head in figure-hugging workout attire at what appeared to be a gym led to the closure of the women fitness centre in Riyadh lately. An enquiry into the matter has also been ordered. It was not worth tolerable which led to the order for the centre’s license removal too.

The authorities called the video vulgar and said that it could corrupt morals. Even though changes are taking place in the country, a woman kicking a punching bag was just not acceptable to the Saudi sports authorities.

Saudi women are still required to wear a body-shrouding dress and cover their head and face in public. Otherwise, they are liable for chastisement. With that kind of restriction, a deep discussion was also supposed to be going ahead. The country is genially throwing various opportunities to the women.

But they were not given free access to a broad scope of previously forbidden dutiful norms. None was fairly uncertain about the reformative changes which were supposedly taking the country on the path of transformation. It also could be a major response to the very deep-rooted discomfort in the Saudi Arabian traditional society.

That switchover on this point was not utterly illogical in view of that country’s attitude. It was more than enough for our imagination. Self-consciousness was supposed to be expansively relaxing. It would not be entirely unfair to accept the essential reformative changes for the women in several spheres. There are a way and a motivation to execute everything in their routine life. What Saudi rulers were offering to its women definitely attract attention.
