Sexual harassment is a well-known social problem that commonly happens in the workplace, school, public transport and now even our home is not safe as many issues came to high light regarding harassment by relatives and family members.
Actually, there is no such place which can be termed ”SAFE” as people lack ethics and perversion is taking over rationality. It also happens on internet, electronic and social communicative media through online sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Trolling is one of the most common ways of harassing in these social networking sites which stresses the mental stability of the victim and often leads to depression. Even well-known celebrities are victims of such abusive comments and trolls on these social networks.
The majority of people in this society believe sexual harassment only involves ”PHYSICAL ASSAULT” but it’s just not that. A suggestive comment, unusual gaze, an unwanted sexual advantage or an offensive touch illustrate examples of molestation as well.
Rape cases are increasing day by day and even the rapidly passed laws and acts are unable to curb these monsters performing heinous acts. Hence, safety still remains questionable in the society wherein one place the same person worships Goddess Durga and on the other hand, have polluted thinking for the girl just standing beside them.
Nobody is left untouched from the effects of such abuse be it a toddler or a 60-year-old lady. Be it in kindergarten where the bus conductor touches where he shouldn’t, be it the elderly so-called respected uncle gazing at your body while giving blessings when you’ve bowed down to touch feet or be it a roadside Romeo who claims to love but when gets rejected, acid attack or rape is the only way which comes as a revenge in his mind and dirty comments are so minute in comparison to these that women have become used too much .
Wearing a short dress, returning from a late night party or having a drink while clubbing doesn’t give reasons to rape or to harass but the inner monster and the perversity of mind which lacks respect and the sense of feelings and humanity does.
Lastly, the most effective thing we can do is “TEACHING THE SONS OF THE FAMILY TO BEHAVE AND RESPECT AND THE MEANING OF A ‘NO’ RATHER THAN CAGING OUR DAUGHTERS FROM LIVING HER LIFE ON HER WILL ”. This nation doesn’t only belong to the men but also to the women society as well and thus they should get equal support, respect and freedom.
