The Fall Of Humanity: Do Indians Really Care Anymore?

Some will blame her clothes, some will blame her religion, some will blame her caste but one thing is common, and that is, all will blame the victim.

What happened in Unnao and Kathua has opened our eyes, and yet we choose to shut them after every incident of rape because it has become such a common thing in India. Mr Modi did not ‘break his silence’ as some say. He was made to. He ‘broke his silence’ because he couldn’t afford to be silent anymore. Had he really been concerned for the ‘betis’ he would have spoken about and rushed to the victim’s family in the first instance and would have made earnest efforts to punish the culprits.

No, he did not break his silence. He was exhorted to do so. Mocking Dr Manmohan Singh as ‘Maun Mohan’ was pretty convenient for them, but I fail to see the ‘difference’ between this practice of keeping silence over issues that need to be spoken about.

Punishing an eight-year-old child over a petty issue of territorial claims is horrifying. Justice can and will never be done. Justice is just to console the society, to let the masses know that the perpetrators will not get away with their crime and will be punished for their sins. However, will the family find peace? Will their agony be pacified? Will they ever be able to feel normal again?

The BJP clearly needs a new definition of what constitutes the term ‘anti-national’. ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ is just meant for chanting. It has no meaning. These are just mere words. So is their ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ slogan. It’s a farce. A joke!

The very fact that menstruating women are not allowed inside temples, but such heinous and barbaric acts to sooth the hunger and lust of a bunch of men can be overlooked, reflects our so-called ‘sanskars’.

The fact that BJP has made everything about religion is pretty conspicuous. For them, Muslims don’t deserve justice. They don’t deserve any kind of mercy or hospitality because they are ‘foreigners’ or ‘Pakistanis’ to be more specific. However, they fail to realize that even foreigners and Pakistanis are human beings.

But forget human beings. Instead, let’s direct all our efforts to save ‘Gau Mata’. Let girls be harassed, molested, tortured, raped, gang-raped but still let’s take a pledge to save Gau Mata. Let boys be not saved from patriarchy. Let the society be divided on communal lines. Let us all wear saffron underwear to support worthy causes. Let religion decide who should be saved and who should be killed.

Communalizing the sexual exploitation and rape of an eight-year-old girl is extremely distasteful and downright disgusting! Even shocking is the protest march brought out by Hindu Ekta Manch in support of the accused which was attended by BJP members, waving the national flag. But let’s ignore this and instead impose stringent rules to ban beef and decide who is patriotic and who is anti-national.

Let’s not condemn this and instead focus on how to change the name of Ahmedabad to Karnavati and Allahabad to Prayagraj. Let’s change the name of Mughalsarai station to Deen Dayal Upadhyay station. Wait a minute, that’s already done. Let’s use the taxpayers’ hard-earned money to built statues of deities. Let more Nirav Modis, Mehul Choksis and Vijay Mallya’s loot and escape. Let’s not bother about our rank in the Global Gender Gap Index. Let’s focus on issues that matter because rationality is nothing but a shibboleth. Because afterall, do we really care about this?
