The Salman Khan Veridict Proves That Justice Can Be Delayed, But Not Denied

We have read somewhere that justice can be delayed, but not denied. This can be seen as actor Salman Khan, on April 5, 2018, was convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, and sentenced to a 5-year jail term, besides having to pay ₹10,000 as a fine. Along with this, he is not eligible for immediate bail as per the quantum of his punishment. It took nearly 20 years for the Jodhpur court to convict Salman under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Even as the actor thinks over the next course of legal action, producers and directors are worried because around ₹800 crore is riding on Salman Khan at the moment.

However, this is not the first time that he has faced criminal prosecution, as in 2002, he was charged in a hit-and-run case. The judgement established that the chief judicial magistrate Khatri clearly distinguishes between Salman (the person) and Salman Khan (the star). However, not everyone has the ability to treat Salman as a commoner.

Public Relations

An hour after the Jodhpur court convicted Khan, a tug of war started on the social networking sites, and Khan’s PR team added fuel to the fire. Many movements and hashtags like #beinghuman, #supportverdict, #salmanweloveyou started doing the rounds on social media.

A few support Salman Khan and find the verdict to be a travesty, whereas others consider the verdict appreciable. We all know that apart from Salman Khan’s stardom, his public relation agency always does its best to appeal to the public and to present him as a Robin Hood. Social media sites are filled with the pictures in which Salman Khan is doing charity work. His essential awesomeness is a brilliant PR success. The PR try its best to change people’s minds about Salman.

Salman And His Love For The Court Of Law

This is not the first time that Salman’s name was dragged into the courtroom. The surprising question is why big Bollywood celebrities, producers, singers and directors support him despite knowing that truth. Why are stars taking the help of social media show their support to Salman? The answer to this question lies in Salman’s connection to Bollywood.

Apart from PR, Salman also enjoys a lion’s share in Bollywood. In many case, he decides who comes into the industry, and who moves out. That’s the main reason why big celebrities support him. The verdict therefore raises many questions on the delay in giving the verdict and the power of Salman’s stardom.
