Why should India be shamed for the crimes of a guilty government?

Our government does not define our country; we do, the ordinary citizens. We are empathetic, we have demanded justice for all rape victims so why should our National flag be burnt? It is still sacred to us. We are raising our voices for the betterment of our country. The rape and murder was not the fault of our country; it’s the rapists who should be punished, not our flag.

Having said that, there are some celebrities (whom I won’t name here) who would have us “not communalise or politicise” this issue and focus on what’s good, that “we are living in the best country in the world”, and we need to “shut off social media and other news”. To them, I’d like to reiterate my Facebook post.

Edit: If he made that statement, it’s gone now. If he didn’t, people spreading such posts, this is for you:

When people tell you “don’t watch the news”, you know they want everyone to become sheep like them, concerned only about what immediately goes into their mouths. This country of billions will not be built by UPSC toppers alone; this country will be built by common citizens like us. How can you commend people starting NGOs and providing service for others and then turn around, shut your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and say “ignore your country, and it’s problems”? Wearing uniforms on screen does not give you the right to preach about what should or shouldn’t concern this country’s people. Shut off social media by all means but, read the papers, you have a brain, a heart, some morals(I hope). Do you want to let them die? In a country where so many people are uneducated? This is how you want the educated class to be? Then what’s the point of it all? Let’s all stay indoors and make pancakes with our friends instead of supporting each other and changing into better people.

Powerful message on how to be lazy, selfish and inhuman.

You want the families of rape victims to focus on their immediate neighbours who are good to them, take back their appeals for justice and go home. There are Hindu friends of mine that joined me in the protest march, Nirbhaya is an inspiration to me, and I am a Muslim. THAT is secularism. THAT IS HOW I KNOW I’M LIVING IN THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. What this gentleman wants us to do is put on blinders, put in earplugs and just let the country burn while we sleep safely at home and relax with our similarly lazy friends who are Muslim, Hindu, Jain, Christian and every religion that exists in this world. Let us all go to sleep collectively and become deaf, mute and blind together. That, according to this gentleman, is the definition of secularism. Let corrupt authorities get away with monstrous crimes, turn your eyes away if you see an innocent screaming for help on the road and go hang out with your friends in the park swapping stories about the past and completely bring evolution to a standstill.
