What A Mother Is

Amidst the troubles of her physical self,

of that huge bump and the mental stress,

the social desires, the gender bias,

she carries this all on her fragile self.

The pain, the shriek, the cry and the relief,

the cord, the bond inside out.

She’s a mother!

Finding solace in her own “single” self,

and not a decor of any man’s shelf,

I believe somewhere she feels

the urge to care, so her own soul heals.

she’s strong; she’s smart,

not through those nine months

but this baby is born straight from her heart.

She’s a mother!

Left alone in the world so stoned,

sometimes of mishaps

and at others, simply disowned.

The mother of a girl was also the

same at one time

but no one ever understands, but she,

of those brutal aborting crimes.

She’s a mother!

We are always born to a beautiful mother

but life’s roller coaster is sometimes strange,

rebirthing us to a father who’s now a mother.

He is different in his own role to play

but the best he does is to believe in us,

there’s nothing! nothing more to say.

He grows you of his failures,

feeds you of his experience,

he was and is still your father, but also,

He’s a mother!

This is my belief; this is my version,

this is my experience of what a mother is.

What is unconditional is what a mother is

what is sacrificing is what a mother is

what is dying but still full of life is what a mother is

what makes you alive is what a mother is

what shows you the light is what a mother is

what looks like God is what a mother is

what makes you, ‘YOU’

is what a mother is…

In what form this ethereal existence happens

is definitely not how I define a Mother.
