The Children Caught In An Adulterous Marriage

This post may seem quite absurd since being unfaithful/infidelity aren’t household terms in the Indian society. But hold on. Something not being a household term doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Infidelity has existed since time immemorial even in the Indian society but because of its oppressive rules, the issue is hushed up and never discussed.

While there are many articles available online on dealing with unfaithful partners, what happens to the children? Articles on such issues are rarely available. Are those children being taken lightly? Why should they be subjected to daily fights between their parents?

Children idolize their parents who become their role models. It comes with a great responsibility for the parents to live up to. A lot of children grow up wanting to find partners just like their parents. When they (parents) cheat and get involved in adultery, it comes as a great psychological shock to the children. Suddenly, the world around them collapses when they come to know that their parents, whom they imagine to be a perfect couple, are not even close to perfect. And which child would want the sex lives of their parents being discussed in front of them? Yes, this is what happens when partners come to know of their spouse’s cheating deeds.

I have tried in vain to find even a Facebook group of children of unfaithful parents. This issue needs to be heard and society needs to discuss it to the very depth. Infidelity must be addressed as it is slowly but steadily attacking our family values which is one of the essential characteristics of Indian society. I hope many of my readers can relate to the post above.
