Corruption causes Tragedies not Caste!

Lately I’ve been noticing people writing and talking aggressively against people hailing from SC/ST category, well not exactly against the people but the reservation accorded to them. You will hear them recite “Jis desh me aadhe se jyada log reservation se kuch bante ho us desh me haadse hone pe surprise nahi hona chahiye”.

While that may sound very reasonable and just to you, let me remind you that they constitute only about 22.5% of the work force, the rest 77.5% is formed by OBCs and Generals.

Here’s a link for those people who have their doubts about the claimed percentage figures above. Do check it out.

Here’s an excerpt from it:

“As per extant instructions, reservation is provided to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes at the rate of 15%, 7.5% and 27%, respectively, in case of direct recruitment on all-India basis by open competition.”

And

“As per information received from 71 Ministries/Departments, the representation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in the posts and services under the Central Government as on 01.01.2014 is 17.35%, 8.38% and 19.28%, respectively. ”

So more or less only 22-25% people in jobs are actually from SC/ST category, the remaining workforce consists of you, all of you, which is around 75-78%.

So pointing fingers at them every time some infrastructure project gets disrupted isn’t fair. Maybe it happened because the personnel assigned for the project were corrupt and irresponsible? And those personnel could belong from ANY CATEGORY (HUMANS).

Considering the percentage of people employed category wise, you don’t even have to be good at mathematics to reckon the probability for which category of people will have more chances of being assigned to that job.

The point is, while it does seem unjust for a certain amount of people enjoying the privilege of reservation, cracking the exams with much lower marks than us, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re always incompetent or inept.

P.S. – I too am against caste reservation. If anything, it should be based solely on family income.
