I Write Because I Have A Responsibility Towards Society

It is said that society plays a pivotal role in shaping one’s character. Society feeds us. It arranges lavish amenities for us. Any societal changes tend to cause similar changes within us. We owe much to our society for the culture and demeanour we are taught.

Since society helps us grow up, we should also have some responsibility towards it. We should protect it from every onslaught, be it external or internal. I have earlier mentioned that if society is contaminated by some evil, then we will also be affected.

There are many a means to preserve the interests of society. Many attempt to safeguard it through poetry. Many choose the path of revolution. Bringing about any societal change is not so easy; it takes sublime efforts. Writing has played a very pragmatic role when it comes to arousing people’s consciousness.

If we look at history, we will get glimpses of the horrendous days of Nazi Germany. The rise of Hitler in the world had affected society significantly. Hitler, who was notorious for his persecution of the Jews, tried to gag the voice of people. But perhaps he was not aware of the saying that the pen is mightier than the sword. And the pen punished him so harshly that today, we utter his name with much disdain and he is a bete noire to us.

I feel an atmosphere similar to Nazi Germany is being created in India. Somehow, we all are afraid that we can be muzzled at any moment. But it is also true that the pen will never hesitate to punish those who try to harm society. I write because I want to use my voice against the injustice which plagues our society and to make people aware of the impact of silencing our voice.

With an encouraging platform like Youth Ki Awaaz, I hope that we, the youth, will be able to arrest the attention of the country.
