Karnataka Election Fiasco: Does The Constitution Mean Nothing To Us?

The recent elections in Karnataka, Goa and Manipur have made me wonder if I still live in a country which was declared to be democratic after 1947 by the then leaders of our nation.

I wonder, how can states hold the authority of having governments of their choice over the discretion of the polls presented, over the choice of the people of the state, because somewhere something is far ahead of just wrong and I wonder if it’s noticeable to anyone.

Karnataka held Bharatiya Janta Party to have won the majority votes and were invited to form a party with 104 seats while a coalition formed by Congress with the Janata Dal (Secular) had 116 seats where 112 is the majority mark to form a government. The Governor has decided to let BJP form the government in Karnataka which is understandable and accepted.

But scenarios change when the opposite happened in the state of Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya.

In the polls held last year in the state of Manipur, the Congress held 28 seats in a 60-member house, and BJP secured only 21 seats, yet Governor Najma Heptulla invited the alliance of BJP with the local parties to form the government ignoring the majority claim of Congress. The same was the situation in Meghalaya and Goa.

I wonder if we’ll continue to see a multiparty democracy change into an authoritarian rule which will be too hard to return from. The hands of one single ideology are uniting people in the name of religion and dividing them on the same name. I wonder if we still follow the Constitution or is it just the wishes of one man that has changed everything? I wonder, for how long will the Supreme Court continue to ignore the changes in our legislature and its activities. I wonder if our Constitution has turned into just a book which is no longer followed.

I wonder so much and yet, there are people who are blindly following the wave of destruction.

BS Yeddyurappa was given a day to prove majority which he failed to do this time around. There needs to be an eye-opener in the nation where fascism is finally noticed.
