We Inquire About The Background Of Our Domestic Help But Not That Of Our Politicians

“India is a developing country.”

I have been hearing this from my childhood. India is still a developing country. How long should we wait for India to become a developed country? I think India will never become a developed nation until and unless the Indian youth critically reevaluate their politics.

It is a well-known and accepted fact that Indian political parties serve as family heritage. When the father retires, the son will be ready to assume his position. If not, someone trustworthy chosen by the father. This keeps on repeating. Most people do not even know that we are ruled by politicians who do not even know any academic subjects.

Instead of tackling an issue with the benefit of the country as an end, politicians handle issues with the sole motive of benefiting themselves and their own party. The Parliament, instead of being a place for discussing important issues, becomes a place for petty fights and trolling.

Have you ever thought if the Finance Minister has a CA degree or not? Or whether the Health Minister has any degree in medicine? In my opinion, ministers should be appointed only if they can furnish their degrees in accordance with their respective department.

I know what you’re going to ask me – is a degree necessary for being a minister? In my opinion, yes. Countries which have less population than ours have ministers who have combined degrees and doctorates. Here in India, we make several inquiries while choosing our domestic help but our politicians get a free pass.

In a movie, I saw the CM of a state appointing two ministers for a single department. A senior person in his 50s and a junior person in his 20s. This may be possible in films but just imagine if this were to happen for real. Misunderstandings will be commonplace then.

Vote bank politics are coming to an end. We are not just voting but also deciding. India will not be a democratic country until and unless democracy wins and this will only happen if the citizens of India properly utilise their votes.

At present, the media plays a very crucial role. However, there are several media channels which seem to favour a single political party.

The chief culprit in Indian politics – corruption – cannot be made to disappear any time soon. However, the youth has the power to build a new society where politics can be professional. A political party shouldn’t be someone’s family heritage. We need to change the state of things.

It’s not the same as it used to be in the past – today, social media has shed light on every corner of the country. The youth can use social media to usher in a new era of politics. The Indian youth should be ready with a broom to clean up Indian politics.

H.L Mencken said, “Under democracy, one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule – and both commonly succeed, and are right.”

This is a well-proven saying. There is no time for real development when all parties do is try to make other parties look bad.

We can say democracy has won in India when the entire system of choosing ministers has undergone an overhaul. Hope those days will arrive soon in the future.
