Question myths existing as taboos around menstruation

Menstruation is linked to embarassement..wherein situation h heightens when taboos are linked to it.

High time we need to start questioning these taboos prevalent in our society.

While growing up there is no denial to the fact that we have heard some elderly person at home saying to a female”achaar ko hat mat lgana”(dont touch the pickle)

Have we ever questioned this.?

Menstruation is an intrinsic part of our society’s culture.

So when a menstruating woman if comes near to a tulsi plant her shadow can wield it, then obviously her shadow can also contaminate the pickle.

But her shadow won’t contaminate other food items kept in her vicinity.

Yes…they won’t because there she is fulfilling her duty of being a loving mother, a caring wife or a sweet sister. And managing the household is her prime duty. If not she then who!

Our male-dominated society has all rules for the subjugation of a woman.

Husband of a menstruating wife can go outside his conjugal relation to satisfy his needs. And no questions will be raised because “he is a man who has all rights to satisfy his needs”

He won’t be considered impure, he is not alleged of abdicating himself from his duty of being a husband.

Periods get late prayers are heeded to mark a girl’s adolescence but our society has robbed that girl of the right to thank god for giving her a  healthy body when she gets her period by not allowing her to visit the temple during ‘those days’ as she is considered impure.

A woman during her cycle is denied the simple pleasure of not washing her hair during her menstrual cycle just to stay calm and clean when her uterus feels been stabbed by knives multiple times.

Don’t manhandle your normal cycle by taking painkillers but if the same question is asked by a girl getting married on the day falling during her cycle. She will be encouraged to take the tablet to delay her cycle so that marriage rituals considered pious are not affected by impurity.

Taboos in our society contradict the reasons why they are followed.
