Equality Is The Need Of The Hour For The Indian Society

Discrimination is defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, sex etc. In India, we have a lot of diversity, hence we have more than one reason to get differentiated among ourselves. But as stated by the constitution, we were always a fair example of a secular and harmonious society. But still, we hear about ingrained discriminatory beliefs which are responsible for the derogatory attitude of the citizens.

Our constitution has always updated and revised laws according to the changing time. But do you think laws would curb systematic discrimination from its roots?

Even though there lies a slight difference between partiality and blatant discrimination, the main source is always same. Insecurity within our mind is the seed behind discrimination. If you get selected for something owing to your inherent privilege of caste, religion, gender or race, you are less likely to own up to it because you are in a position of advantage.

This type of attitude is never going to bring true equality in the society. Perhaps, even while making laws we discriminate. The reservation system is there to make sure that minority communities get equal opportunities, but how much of it is even implemented on the ground?

Our constitution is very empirical and factual; its framework tries to ensure that every citizen of this country is treated fairly. Anything that makes you stand out could make you a victim of discrimination. It’s now the need of the hour that all of us consciously make an effort to end discrimination because laws can only help so much if we don’t change our mentality. After all, we belong to the same nation.

Equality is our fundamental right, and our work and talent should speak for us, rather than our caste, creed, gender, or religion.
