The Karnataka Elections Show That The BJP Is Not Very Different From The Congress

In 2014, I remember several allegations of corruption being made against the then incumbent UPA government. It cannot be denied that several actions of the government at the time were unacceptable. The Indian National Congress (INC) had been ruling the country for 10 years and the gradual corrosion in the conscience of the party’s leaders led to a severe downfall in the opinion the masses had of the party.

Democracy always allows a ‘change’ in the existing system by letting people exercise their choice through voting. In 2014, the time had come for people to vote in accordance with their changed opinion. And thus emerged the BJP – a political party with a strong leadership, a new set of ideologies, and a bunch of promises about improving the lives of the people of this country.

The people of our country had wanted a change. Ten years had been enough for them to change their opinions. The promises made by the new government looked magical and trustworthy. The promises were meant to fix the problems existing in the system.

However, the recent Karnataka elections have proven this choice to be a major failure. It has undermined the sacred nature of democracy. Perhaps this is also another ‘ten years of the same government’ situation. After all, the present government has done strong work in brainwashing and polarising people. Perhaps we’ll be finally fed up of this after ten years and then another political party will take over to exploit the resources of this country and so on and so forth.

The credibility of the previous government is often talked about by the ruling party but what about the present-day leaders of the ruling party?

The situation, in my opinion, is fatal. A greatly polarised atmosphere has been created. Apart from not keeping any of its promises, the present government has divided people along communal lines and filled their minds with hatred.

Summing-up the whole scenario, we are not seeing anything new and progressive but only seeing a repeat of what we have seen previously.
