Periods Are Normal And I Am Not Ashamed Of Bleeding

We, the 21st-century generation are so particular about the latest technological advancements, gadgets and what not.

But what happens to us when it comes to issues like menstruation?

Why do we end up not talking about it or discussing it like the show “13 Reasons Why”?  Why is there still such silence around something which is only a biological phenomenon?

Menstruation is a natural process; it is as normal as breathing. Women do not have a push button which allows them to decide if they want to have their periods or not. Just as any other natural process, this too occurs when it is time.

When a girl hits her adolescence, there are multiple changes that occur in a body and one of these is menstruation. It is normal.

The day she gets her first period, she doesn’t know, but she enters a world which will say so many things and even blame her for this natural process that she goes through every month until she gets her menopause. Now this marks that, a girl will now be able to reproduce and give birth.

There are so many taboos around menstruation that are followed by both men and women like don’t enter a temple or the kitchen, don’t touch the pickle etc.

These rules and norms about menstruation are ancient and don’t make sense anymore. Ask yourself, why would you stop a menstruating woman from entering the kitchen? It was practised earlier due to the lack of proper sanitary care during their period. Same goes for not being allowed in a temple. These norms don’t hold any ground anymore.

In the present times, the least you can do is at least question them, reason out and not follow them blindly.

Both girls and boys should be taught about the period. We have gadgets 24*7 in our hands, let’s make good use of our resources and sensitise people about things that are natural.

Periods are normal.

I am not ashamed of bleeding.

Don’t be ashamed of your mother, sister, friends and for that matter don’t discredit any woman just because she bleeds each month.
