Someone called me an anti-nationalist today!
The disobeyer of my religion,
and the culprit to this land,
the land where I was born,
as a free human being.

I was always a happy child,
happy with the people around,
happy with the books that I read,
which always reminded me of,
the peaceful coexistence of everybody in my country.

Growing up was easy- very easy indeed!
Well! Everything known to me was glorious about my nation.
I was content,
but dissatisfaction soon knocked my door,
when the school where I went could no longer determine what I read.

I now knew about the past and the history,
and the chaos and the violence,
and the immense disparities which prevail.
And now, if I voice it out,
people tell me I am an anti-nationalist!

These are the people I grew up with,
and these are the people who stood with me,
in the pledge which says ‘हम सब भारतवासी भाई बहन है’,
and these people today call me an anti-nationalist,
if I still talk about our other भाई बहन।

Little difference does it makes to me now,
for I have grown up in a free nation,
as a free human being,
and if anti-nationalism is what tells me to be harmonious and in solidarity with the other folks,
this is what I am- this is what I will be!
