This poem is ‘inspired’ by the recent incident of a mob killing two men from Guwahati, suspecting them to be ‘child-lifters’.
I could not sleep last night
It might be that I was ashamed to be a human being
They floated before my eyes
How have the people become so barbaric?
They were crying out for help
They pleaded for mercy
Imagine – how much they cried and screamed
When they had to face the brutality.
Rightly, we shout slogans of ‘justice now’
But why we are taking this so seriously?
After all, we will forget it a few days after the Facebook posts –
Forget it while sipping tea and reading the morning newspaper.
Sorry brothers,
This world could never be for humans
Afraid of people’s wrath
To the extent that they have just become indifferent.
