After 3 Long Years, Congress To Host Iftar Party On June 13

There are some things that all politicians remember vividly in the run-up to the elections. The tradition of holding an Iftar in the month of Ramadan is one of these things. Obviously, a number of political parties organise these events to woo the Muslim voters and to show their secular credentials.

Despite all the disdain and hatred towards appeasement politics, the netas do not forget the occasion of Iftar. After all, they want to prove their good intentions towards the community and their well-wishers by hosting an Iftar – and the masses are well aware of this fact.

It’s not surprising that Iftar diplomacy is yet to lose its significance despite everything that transpires in the political domain. This is why the leaders of many prominent political parties consider it fitting to organise Iftar events.

Even US President Donald Trump had to host an Iftar dinner this year, and he invited bureaucrats from the Arab countries this time. Back in our country, even the BJP’s politicians has had to attend these events on several occasions.

After three long years, the Congress is finally going to organise an Iftar. It will be hosted by the party president Rahul Gandhi, on June 13, 2018. It will be hosted at Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel, as was stated by the party’s minority cell chief, Nadeem Javed. The last time the Congress had held an Iftar was in 2015, under Sonia Gandhi.

The Congress’ sudden decision has come at a time when efforts are being made by the party’s leaders to inspire and further the cause of Opposition unity. However, there’s also the fear and apprehension that many an Opposition leader is feeling uneasy and tense with the grand old party.
