Kathua Rape Case

A murder burned the nation. Humanity died with the killing of an 8-year-old girl who was brutally gang-raped in Kathua region of Jammu and Kashmir. This incident left a massive outrage in the region and across the country also. The protests were started because some Hindu activists were defending and supporting the accused men who planned and committed the crime. This case first came into limelight when the victim’s father lodged a complaint on 12 January for his missing daughter.

The Bakherwal community from which the girl belongs protested that the local police and government were not handling the case effectively. All the 8 accused have now been identified and arrested.

The question that arises from this case is whether there is any humanity left in India. The victim was kidnapped and sedated and rituals were performed in a prayer hall before multiple men raped her multiple times. One of the accused hit her with a stone twice to make sure she dies.

A young innocent girl was used to threaten a community. A mob of Hindu attempted to physically stop police from filing charges against the men accused. Many celebrities had tweeted on Twitter by posting against the accused. Many people took to social media to express their anger. The protests have spread across much of Kathua.
