World Environment Day will be celebrated on June 5, 2018 and this time India will host World Environment Day with the theme “Beat the Plastic Pollution”. Our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi mentioned about the cause in Man ki Baat on May 27, 2018 to emphasis on the matter and appealed citizens to be sensitive towards the sever threat of plastic pollution. United Nation (Environment) recently signed an agreement with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for “Green Cricket” in India. It has been seen that a huge quantity of disposable cup, glasses, plates, straws, Party Banners and Posters made of plastics etc are used during the election campaigns by political parties despite of the ban of these stuff as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India. That is why my concern goes to have the same kind of agreement as BCCI did to reduce the plastic use during cricket matches. It will be a great milestone if Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India come up and sign an agreement to ban use of single-use disposable plastic items during election campaign. That action will definitely help to reduce the plastic pollution and keep our environment clean by mandating Sustainable Development Goals viz SDG-14 and SDG-15.
