United Opposition Or Not, Rahul Gandhi’s PM Aspirations Are Still A Matter Of Doubt

Rahul Gandhi looks like nothing but a shadow in the race for the nation’s next PM. The possibility of him becoming the PM is still ambiguous – and this was aptly hinted at by after Tejashwi Yadav, after he was asked about Rahul’s chances of being elected as the PM.

However, the Congress president doesn’t seem to be too fluttered. Given the current political scenario, he seems to focused solely on ensuring and sustaining the Opposition unity. On meeting Rahul, it wasn’t without reason that Tejashwi evoked Wordsworth in one of his tweets.

That’s why he has said that he will lay claim to the PM position only if the Congress emerges as the single largest political party. Even Tejashwi supported this view.

However, the real problem is not of choosing the PM candidate but winning the upcoming general election at any cost. The Opposition parties seem to be united on this very factual reality. The leaders also seem to be upbeat after the victories in the bypolls. They have understood that their unity can bring about the desired outcome in the electoral battles.

The recent wins by the Opposition parties has unquestionably led to a sense of anxiety in the ruling party. After all, it has lost polls in some key constituencies in UP, Bihar and Karnataka. And it’s only normal for the BJP’s cadres to feel a bit demoralised, while also mourning about the sudden twist in their political fortunes.

For a political observer, these developments are oddly comforting and exciting at the same time.
