After various delays and convoluted scheduling issues, Saudi Arabia’s women can now drive their cars. It was the only country that had a ban on female motorists.
However, what was denied to them for so long is no longer forbidden. The first experience of driving their own cars must have been electrifying for many of these women.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia’s football fans do not appear to be that happy at their team’s exit. The team had lost its first two matches in the group. Only a win against Egypt could have given them some solace – by eking out a consolation 2-1 victory over Egypt.
The win allowed them to finish third in their group, while Egypt returned home without a single point to show for their efforts. In retrospect, the win may just have redeemed the team in the nation’s eyes.
