Shujaat Bhukhari, Editor Of Rising Kashmir Killed By Suspected Militants

On June 14, in the holy month of Ramzan and just a day before Eid, a well-known and courageous journalist from Kashmir was shot dead that by a group of three people who came on a bike as if they had been waiting for him to leave his office in Press Enclave in the evening. Shujaat Bukhari was a veteran journalist and senior editor of Rising Kashmir.

The murder of Bhukhari is an attempt to silence the intellectual voice of Kashmir. Why did terrorists target him, what was their agenda behind this killing? A lot of questions are emerging. His murder is being seen by the journalist community as an act of restricting freedom of expression. The Editors Guild and The Press Club of India have strongly condemned this inhuman act, urging to the Center to ensure the security of journalists in Kashmir. Everyone is mourning the death of Shujaat Bhukhari offering their deepest condolences to his family.

Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti said in her tweet that she was shocked and deeply saddened by the killing of Bhukhari, offering her deepest condolences to the family.

But the question is, what is the J&K government is going to do to maintain peace and harmony in the state? Does only offering condolences solve the issue of militancy and terrorism in the state?

The questions are echoing everywhere.
