What do boys know about periods? Nothing. We are never taught about what periods are – not in school or in college or in any other lectures or seminars.
Why? Because of a simple reason – it’s a taboo in India. Sometimes even girls don’t get to know about periods when they have their first period because their family never tells them about it.
As far as what boys know is concerned, in my opinion, they literally know nothing. Google and YouTube can’t teach you everything, right? Yeah, with help from Google, we know that the process may be painful but how much? Girls aren’t encouraged to talk about periods with boys.
Anyhow, I was lucky enough to have some friends (women) who did talk about periods with me and answered my questions like how they felt, their reaction to their first period, the nature of their cycle, etc.
As to what I think, girls should not have to hide their period experience from guys. In fact, if women can trust their best friends who are male, why shouldn’t they be able to talk about their periods? Periods are just as natural as breathing, you can’t stop them.
