Jugaad: A Tool Of Survival For Middle-Class India

“Bhai kaha naye saman ke peeche pada hai, jab apna jugaad hi sabse bada hai (Why are you after new things when we have our life hacks).”

We have often heard these phrases in our daily life, especially when one hails from a middle-class family.

The term ‘jugaad’ generally means a hack. In other words, it is an innovative fix or simple workaround to make existing things work.

The innovative jugaad technique has helped many to explore their inner creative self and moreover, helped a big brand of population hailing from poor and middle-class families to live a sustainable life.

People who can’t afford luxurious facilities which have made the lives of high-class society a dream for them, most often depend on jugaad and create such innovations which even our highly educated scientists may not be able to invent. A vegetable cart attached with a motorbike or mini cooling systems are some of the best examples of jugaad.

India is known as the ‘Baap Of Jugaad’. Being a developing country, having innovative minds that can find a jugaad for anything is quite helpful for the growing economy of the country. It has not only helped India to grow as an economic power but it has also helped people to live a more fruitful life in this age of modernisation.

It is a boon for the people of our country as can help us solve a variety of problems. We have a habit of opting with a hack for our problems rather than running to experts to seek a solution.

So, we can say that the famous lines ‘necessity is the mother of invention’ is quite apt in India.
