In Two UP Towns, Girls Fight Against The Odds

Uttar Pradesh remained in media attention owing to two different occasions. At both the places, girls played a key role. One pair of sisters invoked the rain God for the arrival of monsoon in Jhansi, while another girl swayed district administrative authorities.

In Jhansi, two sisters were found to be ploughing a desolate field with the sole purpose of soothing the unhappy rain God. Their small village hadn’t been receiving adequate rainfall for the past five years.

Adequate rainwater in the arid region was certainly required. “My sister and I have started ploughing the field so that we can please Indra (god of rain) and he can shower his blessings on us and we can have a good harvest,” said the elder sister with optimism.

While in Bhadohi, a young girl’s heart-wrenching request following her father’s death in police custody persuaded the administrative authorities to investigate the matter further. They came on the roads for the justice. The daughter started wailing and crying, not willing to wait for more time.

In both towns, the girls stood in face of adversity and fought hard for what they believed in.
