On July 11, 2018, the Supreme Court chided the central and the Uttar Pradesh government on the issue of the Taj Mahal’s upkeep. The court said, “either we will shut down the Taj or you demolish it or restore it.”
The popular tagline ‘Waah Taj’ is becoming ‘Aah Taj’ which is fairly evident from the Supreme Court’s observations of the magnificent Taj Mahal’s negligence. The negligence of one of the seven wonders of the world is a matter that needs to be dealt with urgency. The perfection of the marble mausoleum should not be played with, but valued and treasured in every possible way. This was what the apex court indicated in a tangible manner.
The court even went on to say that the country had lost enough owing to the government’s apathy. Even though there are so many monuments, the judges were of the opinion that adequate upkeep of the Taj Mahal could have solved the country’s foreign exchange crisis.
The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world and it draws thousands of tourists from within and outside the country around the year. It needs to be properly restored. The magnificent and wonderful monument on the banks of the Yamuna needed proper upkeep.
The expansion of industrial units in the Taj Trapezium Zone poses a serious danger to the iconic 16th century Mughal monument. The mausoleum was turning brown and green because of industrial pollution. First yellow, and now green scar mars the building’s beauty. The judges also thought the 16th century Mughal structure was more attractive than the Eiffel Tower in France. They were of the opinion that the Eiffel Tower resembled a TV tower, and the Taj Mahal was more beautiful.
