Germany’s Angelique Kerber Beats Serena Williams To Win Wimbledon Final

Germany’s Angelique Kerber clinched the Wimbledon women’s singles tennis championship from Serena Williams on July 14. This is her first Wimbledon and third grand slam title. After Steffi Graff, Kerber has emerged as another Wimbledon wonder from Germany.

Playing in only the fourth major tournament since having a baby last year, Wimbledon has been Serena Williams’ best performance so far. She is currently one title short of meeting Martina Navratilova’s record of most titles and in equalling Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam trophies.

During the final, Williams made 24 unforced errors and 23 winners, struggled at the net and failed to dominate with her imposing serve as Kerber broke her four times and lost her own serve just once. Kerber played a strong match and won the final in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).
