If Children Are Not Safe In Their Own Homes, How Could They Possibly Be Safe Outside?

It is hard to digest as to how fathers themselves can be involved in such a heinous crime. How can a parent molest his own child, his own flesh and blood? A US-based study concluded that 33-50% of perpetrators who sexually abuse girls are family members. The unique and special relationship between father and daughter sometimes lead to “inordinate” relationships.

Daughters look up to their fathers. They have a deep trust and respect for the man who provides them with food, clothing, shelter and a sense of security and protection. Sometime when a husband and wife do not share a healthy relationship, some fathers feel the need to cross the boundary and coerce his daughter to engage in sexual activity. This might lead to long-term and devastating impact on the victim.

No wonder there is so much anger in our society. Relationships based on trust and mutual respect are being broken every day.  I have always wanted to understand the mindset of a person who even thinks about sexually violating his own daughter or any young child in the family for that matter? Fathers, brothers, uncles and cousins – everyone should understand that this is a grave matter of concern. Raise your voice against such crimes and look out for your children. Don’t just sit quietly and let this happen around you.

It’s important to teach your children about ‘good touch and bad touch’. Don’t hesitate to discuss topics like ‘sex education’ with them. If a girl or a boy is not safe in their own house then how could they possibly be safe outside? It’s important to change our mindset and stay away from becoming a part of these types of dreadful and threatening crimes.
