Is ‘Facebook Watch’ the next YouTube?

Videos are the next big thing in social media, that’s for sure, and, Facebook which is already a social media giant is taking this pretty seriously. From launching the ‘story’ feature on WhatsApp and Instagram to promoting video content on Facebook, the stalwart has strongly hinted towards giving a tough competition to YouTube, the global leader in video content. The skyrocketing engagement rates that are being enjoyed by YouTube might face a dent in future due to aggressive video content marketing strategies by Facebook.

Recently, Facebook has launched a global platform for streaming videos called ‘Facebook Watch’. The unique thing about this is the ‘Watch Party’ in which a group of people can stream live or recorded videos at the same time and can engage with each other discussing about the content on same lines. Besides this, Facebook also plans to counter fake news with this platform by making it a centralized platform for streaming news videos which would be authentic.

The platform is now live for all groups on facebook and is all set to create the noise in the video content space that it was seeking since a long period of time. But, will that dent the leadership of YouTube, only time will tell.
