Why Has India Become Hyper-Sensitive To Beef-Eating Only After 2014?

One of the things that has been common in news during the Bhartiya Janata Party’s rule is lynching. Well, to be honest, I myself came to know about the existence of such a word in recent past; but the word now seems to be deep beyond history. Another alarming thing concerning the word is that it has always been evil to the Muslim minorities or the Dalits. The odds that the ruling BJP is maintaining with both these sections of the society is no hidden fact.

So, is this a possible chance for pro-right politics to secure the right-wing vote bank? Perhaps it could be an accurate answer as the group of “lynchers” openly call out for support or are being backed by politicians from BJP.

The reason for the lynchings might be different in different cases apart from the most common beef-eating issue. The right wing alleges the Muslims of hurting their religious sentiments by consuming cow, but the question is, ‘is this sentiment being hurt only in the past four years? Muslims have been a part of this land for centuries. But these lynchings have been a feature only under the present government. The BJP was ruling in the centre earlier as well, but the situation was different back then. So why have things changed for the worse in the present?

Calling BJP anti-Muslim or Congress a pro-Islamist party would make no sense as both are national level parties and they do consist of Muslim representation. However, it has been observed that the ruling party’s Muslim members choose to remain silent in such issues and in other issues, where the Muslims are at fault, these members come on the forefront. Though we see criticism from the other parties, but when it comes to calling on a large scale, all parties stay mum.

Data shows that the beef export has just shot up. But when it comes to the consumption of beef by our people, everyone becomes too sensitive. Those poor souls even hesitate to pet a cow. Nobody knows of what wrong he/she has to depart from this world.

It is sad but the truth is that the grass is always differently coloured on the other side, Recently, when our administration set up cow protection and safety (in Alwar), there was another case where beef was caught being exported to Rwanda.

This hyper-sensitivity is not only on the cow issue but it has reached other levels too: while one Muslim is killed for being in a relationship with a Hindu lady (with certain politics playing at the back), one politician’s supporters advice people to rape the Muslim women by dragging them out of their graves. Apart from this, no one knows of what crime Najeeb’s mother committed to lose her son and of what Junaid’s mother did to make her son taste death.

God alone can explain what was the crime committed by the little girl Asifa, who probably couldn’t even strangle her own doll but was brutally raped and murdered by several men. What was the offense committed by Rohit that he too had to hug death. Is the minorities safety at risk? Are their rights being granted by the Constitution at risk? Well the answer to both these questions can be given by the actions of the administration. Why does the police not arrive on time and rescue the victim; or even in cases where the victim is at fault, why does the law not see that these ones are those who are directing the death penalty; and to the most awful extent, why does the police let the victim die and set their priorities as per the lynchers?

Well, once done with the administration it comes to the citizens: why do we see so much of silence from the citizens? Why is it so that who raise their voices against these issues (say in the Asifa rape case) are highly criticized by the supporters of the ruling party? Why? Maybe once this is done on the religious scale, it might shift towards caste? Maybe tomorrow we fall victim to that as well?

This is a cause which won’t spare anyone. Things are changing for the worst and if not encountered surely Ravanraj is going to set into the country.
