How many of you could relate as soon as you saw the word average? Yes, it is the whirlpool which we all want to escape from, it keeps drawing us towards itself and we keep swirling, round and round. How does being an average make you feel? Incomplete? Incapable? Unsuitable? If all of this is resonating in your head right now, then we are on the same page, my friend. It feels like you’re just not good enough for something, you may not be the worst but also not worthy enough to be the best. It feels like you somewhat have it in you but you’re still comparably less desirable. You have the answers but you’re too scared to speak. You want to stand out, but you crouch down because you fear that there will be someone better than you in the same crowd. You are half full but the half emptiness is what describes you.
I have known that feeling too. It’s like standing in the middle of the queue to take your favourite ride and hoping that you’ll make it to the ride station with the ongoing slot, and there is an excitement building up. But as soon as your turn is just about to come, the gate guard comes and closes the gate. Ah, Snap! That is exactly how opportunities make you feel, right? You think that you will make it but the door gets shut by the time you reach there. The plight of staying stuck in the middle, the constant nervousness, the consistent oscillating between hopefulness and hopelessness keeps getting to you bit by bit.
So, what I want my readers to take away from here is, to fight that feeling of inadequacy. We need to understand that average does not only mean having just weaknesses but also having strengths. We need to stop comparing oneself with the capabilities of others, we need to compete against oneself instead. Take it easy, shake it off, release the pressure, liberate yourself from your anxieties and just take a deep breathe and tell yourself, “almost there”. Have the courage to break free from mental barriers, embrace your imperfections a little more and be a little less harsh towards yourself. Trust me, there is no need to constantly rank yourself. All that is needed is to break your own barriers, grow a little by each day and most importantly feel that you’re enough. You’ve made it this far, you make this little change in your life, then, you are ready to thunder!
