Once again, it’s the month of August, and we are all waiting for that one day; when we’ll be relieved from office work, our entire family would be spending time at home, when we’ll be changing our WhatsApp DP’s to tricolour flag – Independence Day. It’s a hard pill to swallow that 15th of August, the day when our country got its independence, has now become a normal day when we post some messages on our social media handles, maybe watch some patriotic movies instead of remembering the ones who gave their lives for our freedom and happiness; for generations, they will never see. The generations who consider changing profile pictures, a part of patriotism.
I have come up with a different scheme to showcase love for our beloved country. How about we start working on making a difference now? Why not we turn our country into what our ancestors dreamed of? What does being a good citizen means to you? Is it only about bragging about your love for the country, blaming the government, appreciating something without making any contribution or about the role you should play as a citizen? Where do you stand enjoying those two holidays on 26 Jan and 15 Aug posting pictures?
I understand it’s hard to bring about a change all by yourself or start a revolution. But, who is going to bring the change if not us? Rome wasn’t built in a day. Everything takes time, a beginning, a bit of courage and a sense for a better future. This Independence Day, let’s take an oath that we’ll start taking small steps to preserve our country’s pride, beauty and respect.
Let’s not pollute our country, plant some trees, respect and honour our women, not fight in the name of religion, be kind towards the underprivileged and remember to take the smallest possible steps for the betterment of our nation. This will definitely make you a patriot. Changing DP is too mainstream. Let’s try something new this time. Jai Hind!
