Rupal had studied development but wanted hands-on experience to understand the reality in India. Eight years ago, as a part of her project with India Fellow, she started working with migrant labor in rural Udaipur, at Shram Sarathi, and is now the CEO there. Before coming to the fellowship, for the lack of options, she was considering a career in the corporate sector.
Shriram joined the same team as hers, again as an India fellow, in 2015, and has since been making home-loans accessible for migrant labor in Udaipur. Earlier, he was working in the domain of Financial services with a capital advisory in Pune.
Today, both of them live in Udaipur and work with rural communities, to bring security and dignity to the lives of migrant families and help them escape a life of bondage. Watch how the leap of faith (or call it a calculated risk) worked in their favor.
