Bride Wanted For Broom, Not Groom

Son wants to get married and settle. Have you ever thought why? Because Mother has become old, and is sick too. Now his family wants another young Bride for the Broom, since the hands of old Mother can no more bear the weight of it. Wow! Son is so worried about his mom, right ? But here’s the irony? Son did not take his mother to the hospital for treatment. Neither does he hire domestic help, nor does he himself extend a helping hand in her household work, but rather brings home a wife, to give her household services along with bed time pleasures to her husband, 24  hours non-stop, and that too without being paid for all the work she does. The problem is not just limited to his house. The situation is the same in her house as well.

Once I went to get my cloths stitched by my regular tailor. She was about to get married in a few days. When I reached her, she refused to stitch my clothes. I asked what happened. Now dear readers please lend me your ears for you want believe her answer. She said that she had stopped sewing. On being asked why, she gave me two reasons:

First, working on the sewing machine leads to dark circles and weakening of her eyesight. It would leave her looking less beautiful, and that might result in lesser love and attention from her husband.

Second, she didn’t see the need for her to earn since her husband was earning. He would be the one filling her stomach.

I can not imagine that our society has succeeded so well in manipulating the minds of girls as well. The tailor has convinced herself to stop being self-reliant, to stop working, and save her energy to work like a machine at her in-laws’ house.
