A Response To The Critics Of Homosexuality And Same-Sex Marriage

Ever since Supreme Court decriminalised Section 377 of the IPC, several judgemental opinions on the verdict have been pouring in from different sections of the society.

One such statement was made by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

“Legitimizing homosexuality leads to commercial profit since Gay Bars will be opened in all cities on FDI. It is a genetic flaw celebrated,” said Subramanian Swamy.

Responding to Swamy’s statement, someone said, “It’s genetic? Will you also criminalise Down syndrome?”

Well, so are dimples. Want everyone having a dimple undergo surgery? Swamy doesn’t want gay bars and public display of affection especially from the “homosexuals”. Then why haven’t the normal bars been taken into consideration?

“As long as they don’t celebrate it, don’t flaunt it, don’t flaunt it, don’t create gay bars to select partners it not a problem,” said Swamy.

Picking partner is not just a thing in gay bars. It happens in normal bars as well and in brothels too (which is apparently illegal). So why not bother closing down the brothels first and then we can have a look at whether to close down normal bars.

Some people are anxious about this evolutionary judgement, which has finally started a new chapter in the lives of so many people going through depression and has done partial justice to so many who immolated themselves. These people term homosexuality as unnatural.

“By decriminalising homosexuality and permitting male-male and female-female marriage will destroy the family system and prevent the natural evolution and progress of the human race,” said Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH).

Even a banana isn’t natural. It was not edible until 6,500 years ago. Too small a fact as compared to a crisis of preventing the natural evolution? Well, even some Earthquakes are not natural for a fact. Have we been able to stop that?

For all those people who do not understand this simple yet complex feeling of love, it arises out of nowhere. You can fall in love with anyone! And anything as well! Giving opinions like others won’t make the population agree so here is the list of reasons why section 377 is being taken down.

Section 377 violates different articles of the Indian Constitution:

What still lies unconquered is the acceptance of same-sex marriages and adoption. But the significant question here is, inter-caste marriage, though legal, is a taboo in India. Same-sex marriage trauma would require psycho-therapy for Indian parents. It’s a historic moment, and this change would be remembered for ages but first working on the problems that already exist is what is important.
